Before your holiday in Dingle, here are a few tips to get you started!
1: Sat Nav!
As you’re heading from Tralee to Dingle, the Satellite Navigation might try to take you off the N86 and over the Conor Pass. This Mountain Pass (the highest mountain pass in Ireland, that some drivers describe as a white-knuckle drive) might be very daunting if you are not familiar with Irish roads. Stay on the N86!!
Sat Nav from Killarney to Dingle. Take R563 from Killarney to Castlemaine and then R561 from Castlemaine to Annascaul and the N86 Annascaul to Dingle. The R Regional roads can be narrower than the N National roads, so take care!!
As you get closer to Dingle Town, the Sat Nav loves to bring you off the scenic route into Dingle Town and bring you in by the old Dingle Road – don’t turn off to the right, stay on the N86 all the way into Dingle as this will give you amazing views of Dingle Harbour. You will reach our colourful, bustling town within a few short minutes!
2: Layers, Layers, Layers!
As the Irish weather changes so quickly (we are known to have four seasons in one day) your best friends on this trip will be some light clothing layers, water resistant coat/jacket with hood, waterproof trousers/leggings, jeans are good too, and comfortable waterproof shoes. You can add on or take off depending on temperature.
As we take you around the Slea Head coastline drive or up by the Conor Pass, even on a bright blue-sky day it can get quite windy and cold in an instant so, for times like this, I suggest you bring a warm hat.
3: Services!
If you are staying a few days, Dingle has efficient laundry services so no need to over pack!
4: Book ahead!
So, you have booked a tour with Gillian, and you want to do other activities such as taking a boat tour, perhaps a food tour, or even a leather workshop, we suggest you make sure to book ahead of time. Dingle is one of Ireland’s main tourist destinations and all the amazing activities we have to offer tend to book up fast!
5: Eating out!
Dingle has fantastic restaurants but you would really need to book in advance as they get booked out quite quickly. But don’t worry if you don’t get a restaurant booking, we have excellent gastro pubs., cafes, takeaways, and food trucks that serve quality food where you can enjoy a lunch or evening meal.
6: Evening and Night Time!
Dingle has great live traditional Irish music in many of its pubs. If you want to try Irish set dancing, you’ll have an opportunity to do that! Why not bring your own musical instrument as there are a few pubs that encourage you to join in with their resident musicians. Book some short evening concerts, 1+ hour, with Irish music and songs, etc.
